Senior Financial Coach
Kristen Baker joined The Financial Clinic in 2015. As Financial Coach partnering with the NYC Office of Financial Empowerment, she won the 2016 trifecta of the City’s Financial Coaching awards: highest client retention, most client sessions and most client outcomes. Now as Senior Financial Coach, Kristen continues to educate and empower all of her customers, as well as providing leadership and supervision to the Financial Coaching staff while using her experiences with customers to achieve the Clinic’s vision of a financially secure America.
Using her ability to engage with diverse personalities and backgrounds, she works with her customers to identify and achieve financial goals to create meaningful, sustainable behavior change. She is also a creator of Change Machine Radio, the Clinic’s podcast for financial coaching advice available any time, any where!
Before joining the Clinic, Kristen worked in basic science laboratory management at leading NYC Medical Colleges, working with researchers and university administration to support day-to-day research activities and secure NIH and privately funded grants for Alzheimer’s and ovarian cancer research, before transitioning to social work.
As a social worker, she has been able to engage with New Yorkers in the workforce development, college readiness and domestic violence sectors. Kristen has a passion for social justice including intersectional feminism, LGBTQIA rights, youth development and economic empowerment.
She is a former member of the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic and holds a BA from Purchase College, SUNY, as well as an MSW from Lehman College, CUNY. Her main claim to fame is once selling a toaster to Ed Harris.
