Director of Program Innovation
Darren Liddell joined The Financial Clinic in November 2017 as Director of Program Innovation. In this role, he oversees the services, data and policy teams, while providing innovative direction to the Clinic’s new and existing local and national programs, based on his years of experience in direct service, program management, program design and presentation.
Darren currently serves as a member on Prosperity Now’s Taxpayer Opportunity Network Steering Committee and AFCPE’s Government Affairs Committee, and is an accredited Financial Counselor (AFC®) certification through AFCPE, as well as a candidate for his CFP. He was named a Community Scholar in Affordable Housing by the University of Miami’s Office of Civic and Community Engagement. Darren’s favorite financial topics include credit building, tax planning, budgeting, long term savings, financial apps and technology.
Before joining the Clinic, Darren worked with Catalyst Miami’s Community Prosperity Team, directing the organization’s wealth-building programs including financial coaching, lending circles, a reward savings program, a VITA coalition, and a virtual financial education platform. He has years of experience with financial coaching, partnership development and program management. During his time at Catalyst Miami, the Community wealth team has increased the number of clients served by more than 70% and made valuable connections with partners across varying industries.
Previously, Darren worked as a Financial Coach and then Managing Financial Coach at The United Way Center for Financial Stability/Branches. While serving at the UWCFS, Darren lead the direct service portion of the CFPBs first RCT study on Financial Coaching and its effectiveness to impact clients’ financial lives. Additionally, he also lead Miami Dade’s VITA Grant collaborative consisting of over 40 partner sites and help return over $7,000,000 in tax refunds to the Miami Dade County community. Darren also oversaw a network of emergency food programs for families facing emergencies, an AmeriCorps VISTA program, a team of financial coaches, and lead the training for new financial coaches entering the organization. Darren also previously for the housing agency Resources for Residents and Communities in Atlanta, where is originally from.
Darren graduated from The University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) with a degree in Family Financial Planning and certificate in New Media. Outside of work, he is an Eagle Scout, his favorite color is green and he enjoys learning new culture through food.
